Incremental
 | It is common for an organization to maintain at least 1-2 months of data history. In many cases, each day of history is a full backup (a complete replication of the previous day including any new or modified data). This forces IT professionals to limit their historical archives to reduce the high expenditures of full backups. |
SmartBit
eSilo's
SmartBit technology was designed to allow customers to keep years of archives
at a very low cost. SmartBit accomplishes this by disassembling your files into smaller pieces
and generating a unique signature for each piece. This signature allows the pieces to know where
they fit within the puzzle and can recognize differences from previous versions.
 |
Diagram demonstrates how SmartBit disassembles your files so it can detect which piece has changed since the last backup. |
Once a file has been broken down, SmartBit can now determine which pieces have changed.
Only the new or modified pieces are transferred during a
scheduled backup, rather than retransferring the
entire file. This allows eSilo customers to maintain a much longer period of archives at
a much smaller cost. Upon restore, the file is transparently reassembled.
