If a backup report email contains the following: “The backup encountered a problem during startup: Authentication error” AND the error occurs when attempting to backup a schedule (either with ‘Backup Now’ or when the scheduled time comes), the steps in this article should apply.
An immediate workaround for this issue is to perform a manual backup via the “Backup” button on the main client window.
This error may be caused by a startup issue with your hosts.agent file. Navigate to the eSilo, LLC\eSilo Backup\etc folder and check to confirm the hosts.agent file points to the correct eSilo service:
- For users of eSilo Backup Cloud / Hosted: backup.esilo.com:443
- For users of eSilo Backup Server+Cloud / SiloServ / SiloPod: <insert eSilo Server IP Address>:443
